Biography

Roel Wouters (1976) is an Amsterdam based designer and director working in the field of interaction and media design. In 2012 he founded Moniker together with Jonathan Puckey and Luna Maurer. With Moniker, they explore characteristics of technology, how people use it and how it influences one’s daily lives. Often, the audience is asked to take part in the development of their (on- as well as offline) projects which are set into motion through the actions of others and trigger a sense of play. Together with Edo Paulus and the other members of Moniker, Roel Wouters co-authored the Conditional Design Manifesto.
Roel Wouters taught media courses at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the Sandberg Institute and at Yale University School of Art. He regularly gives workshops and lectures at universities, symposia and art festivals around the globe like ECAL, After School Club and the International Graphic Design Biennale Brno.
