Big Ben: Ben Webster in Europe
Director:

Portrait of the tenor saxophonist and jazz legend Ben Webster (1909-1973) during his two-year stay in Amsterdam. Van der Keuken films Webster at performances, in the cafe and in discussions with his landlady. In the conversations with Van der Keuken, Webster muses on the past, on the fantastic time he had while playing in Duke Ellington’s famous big band. In this film Van der Keuken again displays his uniquely personal method of working; many short sequences in which the subject is explored, surrounded, released again and approached from a different angle.
